It’s as important as ever for PWC owners to get involved with defending your freedom to ride. Getting involved is essential. Here are five easy ways you can help:

1. Monitor your local news media for PWC issues and let us know if you hear about a local PWC issue proposed in your community. In addition to being advocates, you can help be our eyes and ears around the country. You can contact AWA at www.awahq.org.

2. Write letters to the Editor of your local newspaper defending access. The AWA can help you with this. Letters to the Editor are an effective way to have your voice heard in the local media and to set the record straight about PWCs and PWC owners. Here is a link to facts about PWC use that can inform your letter, so that our people are always the one with the facts.

3. Vote! And, encourage other PWC owners to do the same. If you are not sure about a candidate’s position on PWC issues, contact them to find out or contact AWA and we can help. If you need help registering to vote, log onto www.awahq.org, then click on “grassroots activism” then “elections & candidates.” Choose your state and get registered today.

4. Operate your PWC safely. More than any other factor—your behavior out on the water can help improve the image of our community. Statistics show that the average PWC buyer is 40 years old, married and has a family. We know riders are regular folks, but government officials do not always know that!

5. Join AWA! This may be the easiest of all: www.awahq.org or call 800-913-2921(AWA1).

All of these steps are simple. But, the most important message is: please get involved, and have your voice heard in the political process.

New Hampshire Speed Limit Update: House vote coming soon!
posted by Wiley Russell Jr

The New Hampshire State House will take up HB-847, the bizarre state wide boating speed limit, in the next two weeks. The AWA believes you know best what speeds are safe and prudent, and the Marine Patrol already has enough to do without the burden of setting up speed traps in coves. Enforcing the current law should be the focus.

Add your voice to ours, thousands of fellow boaters, and hundreds of businesses in the Granite State in opposing HB-847. Please contact your state house member and urge them to stand for the mainstream and freedom.

This past summer, the Marine Patrol conducted test speed zones on Lake Winnipesaukee. The results, as expected, clearly showed that boat speeds are not a problem.

If you don’t know your house members phone number, log onto http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/house/members/wml.aspx

Forward this link to every boater you know. It’s essential the real boating community is heard.

AWA Alert: New Hampshire Speed Limit
posted by Admin

The House Transportation Committee will take up the issue of HB-847, the onerous boating speed limit issue this Thursday, October 18th 2007 in Franklin New Hampshire.

It’s important that riders show up and educate the Committee on the lack of need for a boating speed limit. There are already more than sufficient existing laws dealing with reckless operation of a boat. The Marine Patrol needs to spend their time on enforcing current law and not be burdened with arbitrary speed limits for law-abiding boaters.

Please plan to attend the hearing and show your support against this needless proposal. Rest assured the anti-boating crowd will turn out in force.

The hearing will be held at the Franklin Opera House (Franklin City Hall), 316 Central Street, Franklin, New Hampshire. The schedule lists another issue at 4:00 p.m. with the Speed Limits issue to start at 5:00 p.m. We urge you to attend early as the schedule is always subject to change.

Bring fellow riders, neighbors, family to the hearing. Every person counts! If you can not attend, please call your House Member and educate them that New Hampshire already has laws on the books to deal with dangerous boating, and there is no reason for speed limits. You may use the following link to find your house member.

Make your presence felt: Oppose HB-847!

When we stand together, we win.
